Kathryn Hahn (Agatha All Along) and Kevin Hart (Lift) are cooking up a fresh batch of comedy in an exclusive to Collider sneak peek of Die Hart Season 3 - otherwise known as Die Hart 3: Hart To Kill. The latest chapter of the Roku Channel series debuts today, December 13, and sees its titular wannabe action hero step into a brand new incredibly unideal situation all in the name of holding onto his career in showbiz. Along with Hart, Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones) returns as a main character in the latest season, while Hahn is joined by the rest of the supporting ensemble of newbies that includes J.K. Simmons (Juno), Tony Cavalero (The Righteous Gemstones) and Anna Garcia (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia).

Dressed in an all-white chef’s ensemble, Hahn re-stocks a fridge while Hart breaks down his desire for more drama-heavy roles. Noting that the entire world knows him as a comedy guy or an action guy, he laments that he’s having a difficult time convincing casting directors to see him as someone who can lean into the dramatic. Commiserating with her fellow comedian, Hahn reveals that she’s always wanted to dip her toe into directing, only to be shut down by Hart, who quickly realizes that he’s putting her in a box just like the rest of the industry is doing to him. It’s tough to be talented!

What’s Season 3 of ‘Die Hart’ About?
Over the course of seven episodes, Die Hart 3: Hart To Kill will follow a down-on-his-luck Hart, who is searching for a silver lining after his latest film is a financial flop and a critical disaster. After leaving the comedy game to pursue his love of all-things action, Hart is on the lookout for his next genre hop in a drama role. As he keeps his eyes peeled for his new dream gig, Hart ends up bumping into notable director Jackson Pepper (Simmons), who says he’ll give the beloved star a hand up into the world of heavy emotions and lingering stares. But, with great drama comes great responsibility, and Hart quickly gets in over his head with his latest role, inadvertently becoming a man on the run for murder.

After two fun seasons that featured the talents of John Travolta and Josh Hartnett, it looks like Die Hart, produced by Hart;s own company Hartbeat, is back on course for yet another successful lineup of episodes. Die Hart is an American comedy action-adventure television series that premiered on the streaming service Quibi on July 20, 2020. The series stars Kevin Hart as a fictionalized version of himself, with John Travolta, Nathalie Emmanuel and Josh Hartnett playing supporting roles in the first season. The series received seven nominations at the Primetime Emmy Awards for the actors' performances.[1][2]

The first season was re-edited into a feature film (also titled Die Hart) released on Prime Video in February 2023.[3] Following the success of the first season and the closure of Quibi, the second season was released on The Roku Channel in March 2023. Like its first season, the second season was re-edited into a feature film (titled Die Hart 2: Die Harter) released on Prime Video in May 2024.

Kevin Hart as himself, a Hollywood actor who wishes to become an action hero, and refuses to be seen as a laughing stock. He goes off on a talk show, which ultimately causes his career to plummet. He is offered a role in an action film directed by Claude and is forced to join an action star training camp led by Ron.
Hart also plays Doug Eubanks, his stunt double (season 2)
John Travolta as Ron Wilcox (season 1), the leader of an action star boot camp that Kevin becomes a student of, yet at the start of the series he openly dislikes Kevin.
Nathalie Emmanuel as Jordan King, a female student who befriends Kevin despite their awkward relations. She mentions halfway through the series that she's from Chicago, but at the penultimate episodes she drops her American accent to reveal she's actually from Essex, UK.
Josh Hartnett as himself (season 1), an actor who is friends with Ron, and a former student of his boot camp.
Ben Schwartz as Andre (season 2), Kevin Hart's assistant, who is very loyal to Hart, despite his belittlement[4]

Production
On September 17, 2020, Quibi renewed the series for a second season.[6][7][8] In January 2021, Quibi's content library was sold to Roku, Inc. for less than $100 million.[9] The series was rebranded as a "Roku Original",[10][11] and moved to The Roku Channel on May 20. Following viewership success, Roku renewed the series for a second season, which premiered on March 31, 2023.[12]

When asked about the renewal at Roku, CEO of LOL Studios Jeff Clanagan said:

"The return of Die Hart marks a pivotal moment in the continued growth and expansion of LOL Studios. We’re excited for the opportunity to team up with Roku and be the first Roku Original to get a second season. We can’t wait for fans to dive into what is sure to be an even bigger, more action-packed season two."[12]

In April 2023, the series was renewed for a third season, which premieres on December 13, 2024.[13][14]

Casting
Kevin Hart stars as a fictionalized version of himself in both seasons. The first season features John Travolta and Nathalie Emmanuel in supporting roles. On September 21, 2022, John Cena, Ben Schwartz and Paula Pell were cast in the second season in supporting roles, with Emmanuel confirmed to return alongside Hart.[4]

Kevin Hart‘s Roku comedy Die Hart is expanding its cast with Season 3.

Kathryn Hahn, J.K. Simmons are joining the series along with Tony Cavalero (The Righteous Gemstones, The Dirt) and Anna Garcia (Fly Me to the Moon, Hacks).

They will join Hart and Nathalie Emmanuel, both of whom delivered Emmy nominated performances in the first two seasons. But, according to Roku, “the series’ third season, Kevin Hart is done with the action — what he really wants is critical success. But acclaimed director Jackson Pepper’s (Simmons) help hurts, thrusting Kevin and Jordan (Emmanuel) onto the wrong kind of ‘most wanted’ list.”

Hahn will take on the role of Jillian Avery, a recognizable Oscar-winning movie star at the peak of her profession. Garcia joins as Pearl, a sweet and clueless aspiring actress, willing to do anything she can to be part of a Jackson Pepper film.

Kathryn Hahn and J.K. Simmons are among the new cast members added to Season 3 of Kevin Hart’s “Die Hart.”

Tony Cavalero and Anna Garcia have also joined the third installment of the action comedy series, which premieres Dec. 13 on the Roku Channel.

“Die Hart” stars Hart as a fictionalized version of himself alongside Nathalie Emmanuel. John Travolta and Josh Hartnett were Season 1 regulars.

In Season 3, “Kevin Hart is done with the action — what he really wants is critical success,” according to the logline. When he teams up with Jackson Pepper, “one of the all-time great directors” played by Simmons (“Whiplash,” “Spider-Man”), Hart is launched onto “the wrong kind of ‘most wanted’ list.”
