Chosen at Christmas

The Christmas story reveals how God chooses the unexpected to accomplish His divine purposes. In Luke 1:26-35, we see the angel Gabriel appear to Mary, a young virgin from Nazareth, with a life-changing message. She is chosen by God to bring forth His Son, Jesus, the Savior of the world. Mary’s response in Luke 1:38, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word,” reflects her faith, humility, and willingness to embrace God’s plan. Why was Mary chosen? Luke 1:29-30 reveals that she had found favor with God, not because of her status or wealth, but because of her heart and her readiness to trust in His purpose.
Joseph, too, was divinely chosen to be Jesus’ earthly father. Matthew 1:20-24 highlights Joseph’s faithful obedience when the angel instructed him to take Mary as his wife despite the societal challenges. Joseph’s actions in Matthew 2:13-14 and Luke 2:41-42 further demonstrate his commitment to protect and guide his family as part of God’s plan. Why was Joseph chosen? As seen in Matthew 13:55 and Luke 16:11, he was a man of integrity, faithfulness, and responsibility—qualities essential for nurturing the Messiah.
