Indian Tabla Maestro Zakir Hussain Dies At 73 In The US

Renowned tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain has passed away at a hospital in San Francisco due to lung complications, as confirmed by his family. The 73-year-old musician had been hospitalised for the past two weeks. Son of legendary tabla master Ustad Alla Rakha, Hussain was celebrated globally as a tabla player, percussionist, composer, and actor. Hussain’s illustrious career included numerous accolades, including three Grammy Awards, the most recent of which he received this February. He gained widespread fame in 1988 through a popular tea commercial, solidifying his place as a cultural icon. Tributes poured in following his demise, with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi expressing their condolences. Veteran actor Kamal Haasan also mourned the loss, stating Hussain left the world too soon.
