Thrive - Heavy Lies The Crown | Excellent Fantasy City Builder

Hello Im Skill Incarnate and Welcome to My Games Review Series.
My reviews cover indie games that i have bought, had gifted to me and have been provided by developers for review. In this episode I check out the full release for one of my favourite Medieval City Builder games Thrive: Heavy Lies The Crown on Steam.

Thrive takes place in a dark Fantasy land of Nysamor, where a deadly magical plague called the Waelgrim has devastated the population. The player controls a new ruler who is immune to the Waelgrims influence. You will need to succeed where the previous ruler failed, building a Kingdom to protect your people. Youll do this by guiding your people through gathering resources like stone and wood, constructing homes, stores and warehouses, creating farms and raising animals to provide food, and implementing industry through mining and manufacturing.

In addition to the building and resource management and people management mechanics, that are a staple of City Builder Games, Thrive requires players to delve into the politics of Kingdom Rule. Navigating the various factions of Nysamor, determining who to trust and whom to wage war upon. As your kingdom grows youll create an army of your own, which will defend your home against hostile kingdoms, and more importantly mount expeditions into the Waelgrim, in order to destroy the monsters it has birthed, along with plundering the valuable magical crystals it leaves in its wake. Your decisions will set the tone for your rule as either a Benevolent Leader or a ruthless Tyrant

While Thrive did have a rough initial release, the developers have worked tirelessly to implement several bugfixes and improvements which have resulted in the community embracing this game as an excellent City Builder title. Playway continue to demonstrate their ability to great games across different genres and I recommend this game to fans of City Building Games and those who have enjoyed Playways other work
