Covenant theology is a conceptual overview and interpretive framework for understanding the overall structure of the Bible. It uses the Biblical concept of a covenant as an organizing principle for Christian theology. The Bible is structured around two covenants, The Old, and The New. The Old Covenant was the Mosaic Law(Ex 24:3-8). The New Covenant was originally derived from a phrase which is contained in the Book of Jeremiah (Jeremiah 31:31–34). Christians are the promised New Covenant—new relationship with God—was instituted at the Last Supper as part of the Communion which, in the Gospel of John, includes the New Commandment.
