Gameplay - Resident Evil 3

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, known in Japan as Biohazard 3: Last Escape (バイオハザード3　ラストエスケープ Baiohazādo 3 Rasuto Esukēpu?), is a survival horror video game developed and published by Capcom, originally released for the PlayStation in 1999. It is the third game in the Resident Evil franchise, and takes place before and after the events of Resident Evil 2.

The story focuses on Jill Valentine and her efforts to escape Raccoon City, a city completely infected with a new type of secret biological weapon developed by the pharmaceutical company Umbrella Corporation. The game uses the same engine as its predecessors and features 3D models over pre-rendered backgrounds with fixed camera angles. Unlike previous games, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is designed to be more action-oriented. It features a greater number of enemies to defeat and introduces the Nemesis creature, which periodically pursues the player until the end of the game.

Resident Evil 3 was a critical and commercial success, selling more than three million units worldwide. Most critics praised the graphics for being detailed and Nemesis as a frightening villain, but some criticized the short length of the game and story. After its release on PlayStation, the game was later ported to Dreamcast, Microsoft Windows and GameCube. A recreation, titled Resident Evil 3, was released on April 3, 2020 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
