Al Gore's climate crusade was heavily influenced by scientist Roger Revelle, who first proposed CO2 emissions as a cause of "global warming".

However, Revelle later rejected his earlier work and, in 1991, apologised for sending so many people in the wrong direction.

But that little "inconvenience" wasn't going to deter the grand ambitions of Al Gore.
