The sinking of the USS Liberty - a signals reconnaissance ship - took place in the eastern Mediterranean on the 8th of June 1967. It was a deliberate attack carried out by Israel against a US vessel. For some reason the presence of that ship was a problem for Israel, fighting the so called six-day war on some of the surrounding arab states.
