US President-elect Donald Trump wants European troops to monitor a potential ceasefire in Ukraine, according to a report. Trump made the comments during his Dec. 7 meeting with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky and French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris.
Trump also wants Europe to play the main role in defending and supporting Ukraine, the WSJ cites unnamed official sources as saying. However, the EU’s top diplomat said it was premature to talk about a European peacekeeping mission in Ukraine. The Kremlin said that the possibility of deploying European troops as peacekeepers in Ukraine “can and should be discussed during negotiations.”
