Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Taken to 'Hospital for Evaluation' After Injury During Trip Abroad
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was admitted to a hospital during a congressional delegation trip to Luxembourg.
Ian Krager, a spokesperson for the 84-year-old politician, said in a statement issued on Friday, Dec. 13 that she "sustained an injury during an official engagement and was admitted to the hospital for evaluation."
The injury occurred while she was "traveling with a bipartisan Congressional delegation in Luxembourg to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge," he shared.
Krager added that "Pelosi is currently receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals. She continues to work and regrets that she is unable to attend the remainder of the CODEL [congressional member delegation] engagements to honor the courage of our servicemembers."

Her spokesperson said that Pelosi "was personally and officially honored to travel with the distinguished delegation, many of whom had family members who fought in World War II — including her uncle, Johnny."
"She looks forward to returning home to the U.S. soon," Krager concluded.
On Thursday, Pelosi's team issued a statement, announcing that the politician would be traveling to Belgium and Luxembourg from Friday, Dec. 13 to Saturday, Dec. 14. to "part in observances of the anniversary along with veterans and their families, active duty servicemembers, government and military officials and foreign dignitaries."
“As we mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, it is a great privilege to join a distinguished bipartisan delegation to Belgium and Luxembourg to honor one of the greatest acts of American heroism in our nation’s history,” Pelosi said. “We commemorate the courage of our servicemembers who braved weeks of bitter winter to secure the victory of freedom over tyranny, not only for Europe, but for all the world.”

She added, “All Americans who lost a loved one in World War II join in praising the courage of our veterans. Their service reminds us of our mission: to build a future worthy of their sacrifice.”
Her visit to Europe for the Battle of the Bulge comes five years after she previously led a congressional delegation to the area to mark its 75th anniversary.
In August, Pelosi published a new book, The Art of Power, looking back on her political career, spanning from her election as the 52nd Speaker of the House in 2007 — and serving as the first woman Speaker for eight years — to her current role as the representative for California’s 11th District.
No other details about Pelosi's injury were shared at this time. PEOPLE has reached out for more information.
