The launch of HMS ALBION (21 June 1898) was the first tragedy caught on film.
As she was being launch, ALBION when a wave created by her entry into the water caused a stage from which 200 people were watching to collapse. 34 people drowned in one of the worst peacetime disasters in Thames history. The event was filmed by E. P. PRESTWICH and Robert W. PAUL.
