"You can't like someone right now because you could kill them." Peacock has unveiled the full official trailer for a sex comedy series called Laid, created by Nahnatchka Khan (Always Be My Maybe, Totally Killer) and Sally Bradford McKenna. The funny teaser debuted just last month. It's based on the Australian series of the same name (from 2011) and is streaming on Peacock in the US this December. A woman finds out her former lovers are dying in unusual ways and must go through her sex timeline to confront her complicated past in order to move forward. That sounds awkward & amusing! "The premise of Laid — a woman discovers all of her exes are dying in mysterious ways — [was] exactly what we were looking for: a F–ed-up rom-com." Laid stars Stephanie Hsu as Ruby and Zosia Mamet as her best friend AJ. The main cast also includes Michael Angarano and Tommy Martinez, and exciting guest stars like Finneas O'Connell, Andre Hyland, Olivia Holt, David Denman, Chloe Fineman, and John Early. Glad this has more footage, because it looks like the relationship she strikes up with Angarano will be really wholesome and meaningful.

To her horror, Ruby (Hsu) finds out her former lovers are dying in unusual ways and must go through her sex timeline to confront her past in order to move forward. Laid is described as a 'F-ed up rom-com' where the answer to 'Why can't I find love, is there something wrong with me?' is a resounding 'Yes. There is. The problem is definitely you.'" The creators add: "Please enjoy as Ruby searches for love, along with help from her best friend AJ who makes Ruby's sex timeline so she can track down all of her exes — the guys, the girls, the one-night stands, the man she only remembers as 'Green Day Shirt' — to tell them... they're going to die. It's truly the love story for our times." Laid is a series co-created and showrun and written by Nahnatchka Khan (director of the films Always Be My Maybe and Totally Killer) and Sally Bradford McKenna. Based on the Australian series also called "Laid" created by Kirsty Fisher and Marieke Hardy. With writing by Abbey Caldwell, Jeff Chiang, Billy Finnegan, Ria Sardana, David Smithyman. And episodes directed by Maurice Marable & Nahnatchka Khan. Exec produced by Stephanie Hsu, John Davis, John Fox, Jennifer Carreras, Marieke Hardy, Kirsty Fisher, Liz Watts, Nahnatchka Khan & Sally Bradford McKenna. Peacock will debut Laid streaming on Peacock starting on December 19th, 2024 later this year. Who's in?

“When we started to develop Laid, we were intrigued by the idea of bringing back the old-school, traditional romantic comedy (swelling music! kisses in the rain! Anne Hathaway or someone who is also appealing!), but because we were living in such a dark time (pandemic! industry strikes!), we felt it needed to have some kind of twist,” shared co-showrunners and executive producers Nahnatchka Khan and Sally Bradford McKenna in a joint statement.
They continued, “Sure, it could be optimistic and heartwarming and make you believe in love again, but it should probably also have suspense, death, and blood. The premise of Laid—a woman discovers all of her exes are dying in mysterious ways—seemed exactly what we were looking for: a f*cked-up rom-com.”

Teaser
Peacock has just dropped the new trailer for its dark and twisted romantic comedy, Laid, which features Academy Award nominee Stephanie Hsu in the lead role. Now, we've said that Laid is a dark and twisted romantic comedy, and that's probably an understatement if we're being honest with you. The series follows Ruby (Hsu), a woman whose quest for love is derailed when she discovers that her ex-lovers are dying in mysterious and gruesome ways. That's definitely one way of saying you're racking up a body count, yikes.
Joining Hsu in the series is a stellar lineup of guest stars, including Simu Liu, Kate Berlant, and Alexandra Shipp, alongside previously announced stars such as Michael Angarano (Sky High), Tommy Martinez (Good Trouble), Andre Hyland (The Death of Dick Long), John Early (Search Party), Chloe Fineman (Saturday Night Live), Olivia Holt (Totally Killer), David Denman (The Equalizer 3), Finneas O’Connell (Turning Red), and Ettore “Big E” Ewen (WWE superstar who is part of The New Day).
With the help of her best friend AJ (played by Zosia Mamet), Ruby embarks on a wild journey through her romantic past, retracing her sex timeline to warn her exes, ranging from one-night stands to long-lost flings, including one guy she only remembers as “Green Day Shirt,” that they may be next. The series, which has already been described as a “f**ked-up rom-com,” is a perfect mixture of heartwarming optimism combined with suspense, death, and blood, making it the perfect love story for these dark and unpredictable times. Or maybe it's just wish fulfillment for those of us out there who have had bad relationships. Who knows?
What Is the Inspiration Behind 'Laid'?
Co-showrunners and executive producers Nahnatchka Khan and Sally Bradford McKenna shared their inspiration for the series last month when the first teaser for it was revealed:
“When we started to develop LAID, we were intrigued by the idea of bringing back the old-school, traditional romantic comedy—swelling music, kisses in the rain—but with a twist. Because we were living in such a dark time, we felt it needed suspense and death and blood. The premise of LAID—a woman discovers all of her exes are dying in mysterious ways—seemed exactly what we were looking for: a f**ked-up rom-com.”
LAID will debut all episodes on Peacock on December 19, 2024. Stay tuned to Collider for further updates and be sure to check out the new trailer for the series below.

“When we started to develop Laid, we were intrigued by the idea of bringing back the old-school, traditional romantic comedy (swelling music! kisses in the rain! Anne Hathaway or someone who is also appealing!), but because we were living in such a dark time (pandemic! industry strikes!), we felt it needed to have some kind of twist,” co-showrunners Nahnatchka Khan (Fresh Off the Boat) and Sally Bradford McKenna (The Goldbergs) said in a statement on Thursday. “Sure, it could be optimistic and heartwarming and make you believe in love again, but it should probably also have suspense and death and blood. The premise of Laid — a woman discovers all of her exes are dying in mysterious ways — seemed exactly what we were looking for: a f—ked-up rom-com.”
Khan and McKenna also write and executive-produce Laid, with Hsu serving as an EP, as well. The cast includes Michael Angarano (Minx) and Tommy Martinez (Good Trouble), with guest appearances by John Early, Chloe Fineman, Olivia Holt and more.

trailers-and-promos
Oscar nominee Stephanie Hsu has to deal with the fact that her exes keep dying in the trailer for Laid. Set to debut on Peacock in just a matter of weeks, the comedy series was first announced in January of this year. It comes on the heels of Hsu's Oscar-nominated performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once and her standout role in the raunchy comedy Joyride. But in her latest project, she plays a young woman who might be a harbinger of death.
Peacock has released the trailer for Laid, which will release all episodes on December 19.
The trailer previews the premise, focusing mainly on Ruby and her best friend AJ (Girls and The Flight Attendant star Zosia Mamet). Ruby's exes gradually start to die off. The two-minute preview previews how, though she's not worried at first, Ruby eventually realizes that there is a problem, and she thinks she might be that problem.

With the help of AJ, Ruby comes to accept that everyone she has had sex with is dying. A true crime fanatic, AJ helps Ruby shift through her love life timeline and confront her past relationships for the sake of moving forward and hopefully keeping people from dying. The project hails from Nahnatchka Khan, who previously worked on Young Rock, and Will & Grace writer Sally Bradford McKenna. Both are executive producers and showrunners.

The 35 Best TV Shows On Peacock (December 2024)
Peacock, NBCUniversal's streaming platform, is growing its library of exclusive content. Here are some of the best TV series the service has to offer.
The cast also includes Michael Angarano and Tommy Martinez, with guest stars Simu Liu, Kate Berlant and Alexandra Shipp, Andre Hyland, David Denman, John Early, Ettore “Big E” Ewen, Chloe Fineman, Olivia Holt, and Finneas O’Connell. Based on the trailer, it looks like each episode could deal with one or two of the exes in an anthology format.
Laid hails from Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, and is based on the Australian show of the same name.
Our Take On Laid
It Could Be Great
Louisa May Alcott (Zosia Mamet) tells Emily about her process at dinner in Dickinson season 1
Mamet arguably stole the show as a proactive best friend in The Flight Attendant. She could do the same with Hsu, who has proven her ability to move between comedy and drama. Although it's still early to give a confident verdict, the cast and premise of Laid offer reasons to be optimistic.

Starring Stephanie Hsu, the series follows Ruby, a young woman who discovers her former lovers are dying in unusual ways. In order to move forward, she must track down past flames (guys, girls, exes, one night stands) and tell them the truth: they’re going to die.
Here’s an official synopsis for “Laid,” courtesy of Peacock:
A woman finds out her former lovers are dying in unusual ways and must go back through her sex timeline to confront her past in order to move forward – “Laid” is a f*cked up rom-com where the answer to “why can’t I find love, is there something wrong with me?” is a resounding “Yes. There is. The problem is definitely you.”
Along with Hsu, “Laid” also stars. Zosia Mamet, Michael Angarano, and Tommy Martinez. Guest stars include Andrew Hyland, Kate Berlant, David Denman, John Early, Ettore “Big E” Ewen, Chloe Fineman, Olivia Holt, Simu Liu, Finneas O’Connell, and Alexandra Shipp.
Nahnatchka Khan and Sally Bradford McKenna serve as co-showrunners, writers, and executive producers on “Laid.” Other executive producers include Hsu, John David and John Fox for Davis Entertainment, Jennifer Carreras for Fierce Baby, and Marieke Hardy, Kirsty Fisher, and Liz Watts for Porchlight Films. All3 Media International also executive produces the series.
All eight thirty-minute episodes of “Laid” premiere on Peacock on December 19. Watch a trailer for the series below.
Academy Award nominee Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All at Once, Poker Face) and Zosia Mamet (Girls, The Decameron) team up in Peacock's upcoming comedy series Laid.
The series follows Ruby (Hsu), a woman who discovers her past lovers are dying in mysterious ways. What's a girl to do? If you're Ruby, you go back through your sex timeline in order to get to the bottom of things.
In Laid's first teaser, we meet Ruby, her friend (and co-investigator) AJ (Mamet), and some of her exes, played by the likes of Brandon Perea (Nope, Twisters), Finneas O'Connell (Turning Red), and John Early (Stress Positions).
