Athletes are some of the most watched and followed people in modern society. But just because fans cheer their names, that doesn’t place them in any way above the law. On November 28, 2022, Tampa Police went to former NFL star Antonio Brown’s house to serve an arrest warrant for a domestic incident. Brown allegedly threw the mother of his children's belongings into the street and threatened her, including throwing a shoe at her head. He refused to exit his home when police attempted to serve the warrant.

On September 9, 2021, shortly after being inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame, former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones was detained by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police at 5:45 a.m. Jones was visibly upset and confrontational, vocally expressing his frustration to the officers. Despite the rising tension, the officers maintained their composure as Jones continued to curse and explain his perspective.

On September 11, 2023, former NFL player Adam "Pacman" Jones was arrested at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport for being an unruly passenger. Attempts by police to calm Jones were unsuccessful, leading to his handcuffing and detention. As he was escorted out of the airport, Jones vocally expressed his displeasure before being placed in a squad car for transport.

On March 11, 2019, former UFC champion Conor McGregor was arrested in Miami Beach, Florida, facing charges of felony strong-armed robbery and misdemeanor criminal mischief. The charges related to an incident involving forceful theft and property damage. When police arrived, McGregor’s entourage emerged to discuss the situation. Officers explained that McGregor needed to accompany them for booking, and after a brief discussion allowed by the police, they engaged further with Conor.
