Back bencher
A backbencher is a member of a parliament or legislature who does not hold any official position in the government or opposition. They are typically members of a political party but do not have a leadership role.
The term "backbencher" comes from the physical seating arrangement in the British House of Commons, where these members sit in the back rows of benches behind the frontbenchers, who are the party leaders and ministers.
Key characteristics of a backbencher:
* Limited power: Backbenchers have less influence on policy decisions compared to frontbenchers.
* Role: Their primary role is to represent their constituents and vote on legislation.
* Freedom of speech: They have the freedom to express their views and criticize the government without fear of losing their position.
