Iran Accuses Israel, US of Chaos in Syria as Rebels Urge Syrians to Return to Their Homeland

Syria’s new interim leader, Mohammed al-Bashir, stated that the government appointees will be announced within a few days. He also mentioned that the rights of all people and all sects in Syria will be guaranteed. During an interview, he appealed to all Syrians to return to their homeland. Rebel leader Abu Mohammed al-Jolani also praised the group’s fighters, stating that they seized control of Syria without any foreign support. He further said that he would dissolve the former President Bashar al-Assad regime’s security forces and close its “notorious prisons.” Assad’s Baath party also said it was suspending the work for an indefinite period. Meanwhile, Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, stated that Assad’s ouster will not weaken his country. Israeli forces also continued their strikes in the coastal Latakia and Tartus provinces. The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, is currently on a trip to West Asia to ensure a smooth political transition in Syria.
