The Indiana Jones series has struggled to recapture its former glory, with its last two films, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Dial of Destiny, falling significantly short of the heights of the original trilogy. However, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle manages to rekindle that spark perfectly. It begins with a near shot-for-shot playable recreation of Raiders of the Lost Ark's unforgettable opening, complete with Indy dodging arrows and fleeing from a giant boulder. Starting the game this way could have easily felt like pandering fan service, but here it sets the tone for an authentic Indiana Jones adventure.
MachineGames has delivered a high-flying, swashbuckling Indiana Jones story that fans have long been craving. The game is a first-person action-adventure masterpiece, arguably the studio's best to date. Considering MachineGames' already impressive track record, that's high praise.
One of The Great Circle's biggest strengths is how perfectly it captures the vibe and aesthetic of Indiana Jones. Much like Marvel's Spider-Man, Batman: Arkham Asylum, or Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order did for their respective franchises, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle adapts its source material with incredible care and devotion. It’s clear that this is a game made by lifelong Indiana Jones fans.
