The Islamists who seized power in Syria burned the grave of Bashar al-Assad's father.

In the city of Qardaha in Latakia province, supporters of the new government broke into the Assad family mausoleum, where the remains of former Syrian leader Hafez Assad and other family members rest.

The coffin containing the body of Hafez al-Assad, the father of the last president, was burned. Earlier, militants toppled his monuments in Aleppo and other cities.
