When I was working on The Detox Manual, I told Andy I wanted to write a description of what mercury does to you that would make toxic people read it, recognize themselves, and burst into tears.

He emailed me once to say that in the 'old days' when people used to order books over the phone, he would sometimes ask why they bought the book. By far the most common answer he got was "I read the symptom description and thought, “ OH MY GOD THAT'S ME!" “So,” he advised me, “The better the description is from the standpoint of a person's experience and what they can observe about themselves, the easier it will be to sell the book, and the more the readers will actually do what it says.”

The symptom description, he told me, is the best place to solve the problem of uncertainty. Not being sure what’s going on paralyzes people. Few people are good at making decisions in the face of uncertainty. Some love rolling the dice, but most just get paralyzed. For instance, people can't stand to invest in the stock market because they might lose money. Or make money. Have a good year or a bad one. They just don't know so most won't invest.

Any nagging doubt they have about whether their problem is really mercury, will keep them from getting on with detox. What they ARE sure about is that if they do try to detox, they're going to spend money and face a lot of social opprobrium. So, if there is any uncertainty as to the potential benefit, they will be apt to not go forward.

The whole urine challenge test scam, he went on to say, is just a way to have a ritual that appeals to the “State Science Religion” dogma with which the public schools filled all our heads. Getting the results of a urine challenge test convinces people that they’re toxic so they may decide to do something about it. Also, it gives them a piece of paper to use as a defense against charges of heresy when they get accused of consulting with quacks. It is that feeling of certainty that is most important in getting them to decide and move forward. We need to give them that moral certainty that they have mercury. A compelling description of what they are experiencing is a great way to convince them that what they are looking at is mercury poisoning.

I did my best to write a good description of what mercury toxicity does to a person. Please get a copy of “the Mercury Detoxification Manual,” and read what I wrote.
