What were yesterday, last year’s, or the previous century’s blindspots are by now, especially in the case of Syria, out in the glaring bright sunlight. Exposed for all to see we behold a country that has withstood the horrors of war, displacement, torture, insurgencies, regional- and global powers not just with a finger in the proverbial pie, but with boots on the ground, drones in the air, and persistent surveillance and tracking of friend and foe in the fragmented territory once called Syria. With King Assad abdicating, and the Israeli’s unleashing their apparent limitless stockpile of missiles, shells, and all sorts of other munitions on Syria, who of the commentators still dare say - we do not want a regional war in the Middle East? This is more than a regional war, that has been raging in many forms, for many years.
