Why was lead house paint banned in the 70’s? (I am pretty sure it wasn’t “to protect the kids”)

Lead house paint wad banned in 1978. Why was this so heavily regulated yet lead (and other heavy metals) in 2024 is still not regulated in everything else (like our dinnerware)? I have a theory!
