Produced by Stanley Clarke but not included on the original 1983 release 'I'M READY' album, but were first introduced on an early-'90s budget CD reissue. Perhaps because Cole was not at her vocal peak—notice the somewhat deeper, altered quality of her sound; nonetheless, she infused a certain assertiveness and finesse to three groovalicious ditties and one additional ballad. On the sparse, Soul Train-esque funker "Azz Iz" (co-written by Larry Batiste and Claytoven Richardson, formerly of Bill Summers & Heat) and the slinky, Kashif-vibed "Winner (Take All)," Natalie rouses with sultry, delayed embellishments complemented by plush background arrangements, sly guitar flourishes, and a deep synth-bass framework.
