The Salt Lake City Police Department released body-worn camera footage from an officer-involved-critical incident in November.

On Nov. 21, officers were dispatched to the area of 800 South and 700 East on several reports of a man who was naked, disoriented, and rummaging through trash.

The man, identified as John Gianini, 50, was reportedly conscious and breathing but not alert. He appeared thin, weak, and malnourished, "growling" at officers, SLCPD said.

Police requested resources from the Salt Lake City Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance for a psychological evaluation and medical treatment.

While waiting for paramedics, officers provided the man with clothing and blankets. Authorities reported that he was handcuffed as he repeatedly attempted to stand despite being instructed to remain seated.

When Gold Cross paramedics arrived, they transported the man to the hospital, with SLCPD officers and social workers following in separate vehicles. According to police, the man's condition worsened during transport.

Despite life-saving efforts, the man died at the hospital. The specific cause of death is not yet known.
