Luigi Mangione has been charged for murder in New York hours after he was named a person of interest in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, according to an online filing obtained by NBC News. New York authorities filed the charges on Dec. 9, hours after he was arrested in Pennsylvania. The records show five counts, including one count of murder, three counts of criminal possession of a weapon, and one count of possession of a forged instrument. The 26-year-old is also facing five charges in Pennsylvania for forgery, carrying a firearm without a license, tampering with records or identification, possessing instruments of a crime and providing false identification to law enforcement authorities, per NBC News. NBC News has reached out to his attorney for comment. NBC News Now captured footage of the 26-year-old entering a courthouse in Pennsylvania for his preliminary arraignment on Dec. 9, where he was denied bail per the outlet. At the hearing, NBC News reports he did not enter plea in connection to the charges. He is currently being held at a prison in Pennsylvania according to the outlet. The new charges come hours after New York City Mayor Eric Adams held a press conference to discuss the latest developments in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, who was fatally shot on a street in Manhattan last week.
