China Probes Nvidia for Monopoly After US Chip Export Curbs

China's antitrust regulator, the State Administration for Market Regulation, has launched a probe into US chip giant Nvidia. The agency has not specified how Nvidia may have violated the law. Nvidia, which dominates the global AI chip market, stated it is willing to cooperate with regulators. The announcement led to Nvidia's shares dropping by 2.5%, though analysts downplayed the impact. The Chinese investigation into Nvidia also revisits conditions tied to its 2020 acquisition of Israeli chip designer Mellanox. This probe comes amid escalating US-China tensions over chips powering artificial intelligence. Recently, the Biden administration restricted US exports to 140 Chinese firms, citing national security concerns. It was the third such move in about three years, aiming to limit China's technological capabilities.
