Discovery of Bizarre Stone Age Skulls Baffles Archaeologists

Archaeologists in Italy have uncovered a macabre discovery of at least 15 human skulls and 400 bone fragments at a Neolithic site in Puglia.

Dating from 5618 to 5335 B.C., the remains were found in a mound at Masseria Candelaro, a prehistoric village.

Despite many skulls being cracked, experts believe they were part of an ancestral ritual rather than victims of violence.

The skulls were likely trophies taken from enemies, discarded in a non-burial area called Structure Q, Men’s Journal has reported.
