Who am I?

From a spiritual perspective, the question "Who am I?" is profoundly important because it serves as a gateway to self-discovery, inner freedom, and the realization of one's true nature. Here's why it holds such significance:
This question encourages one to look beyond the superficial identities (name, roles, titles, or achievements etc.) and explore the deeper essence of being. Many spiritual traditions emphasize that the ego, or the constructed sense of self, is a limited and illusory identity. Asking "Who am I?" dismantles this illusion and opens the door to experiencing the authentic self. For me, asking "Who am I?" is a means to realize that the individual self is not separate from the universal consciousness or oneness. It shifts focus from the personal "I" to the universal, unveiling the interconnectedness of all existence.
Much of human suffering arises from identification with transient experiences, thoughts, or emotions. Reflecting on "Who am I?" fosters detachment from these impermanent experiences, leading to a state of inner peace and freedom.
