The miser Ebenezer Scrooge runs a business whereby he does "business" and treats his employee, Bob Cratchet, with little care--as he does with almost all those who dare intrude upon his solitude.
In the end, Dickens asks of his main character whether the money he pinches between his fingers is worth the misery of not using for the good of his fellow man.
