Chaos is an unknown friend...

A contemplative, melancholic, nostalgic poem by Addison Zane Mills

//
WE, THE PIONEERS

Here we stand at the edge and look beyond this distant shore.
Yet not the stars nor oceans deep, here, hold our gaze.
This frontier stands within the mind, a mountain calling;
A fearful place.

A valley in a shadow -
We the pioneers;
To trace the hidden river
And bring the sun to bear.

On this edge we hold fast to weather storms and fear no more;
Look now and see the sunrise glow to start the dawn.
Longing eyes may not look back at safety calling
To bring us home.

Our home now on the edges -
We the pioneers;
To chart the open wilds
Embracing what we fear.

Chaos is an unknown friend; an unforgiving looking glass.
‘Tis not an enemy to fear, but shows the way
Reflecting only who we are, what we are missing,
What we don’t say,

Vast unknown or unspoken,
We the pioneers
Crave only to discover;
To chart our values dear.

Here we stand at the edge and look beyond this distant shore -
We the pioneers.
