Higher Powers
(To Obey Or Not To Obey)
Text: Romans 13

Objective: that we may know who really rules and how

Intro:
We are called to obey and it can be very good to do so.
But where do we draw the line?
Just be obedient and not free?
When is obedience actually foolish/stupid?
How modern translations change romans 13
Different government models through time.

Our Attitude to Government should be:
1. Consider "the Highest"

Higher Powers is a relative term - v. 1
something is higher than something, something is the highest of all
God is the supreme ruler - "the Highest", "most High"
that is why it is God that ordains
v.4 - minister of God

2. Do Not Resist Legitimate Authority - they are given power to rule and punish - vv. 2-7
3. The Reason to Obey is "Not Just to Obey" - vv. 8-14 - law of God and what is good
4. Summary of Obedience - the Highest Power to known to us is Jesus - v. 14

"put ye on the Lord Jesus"

Message/conclusion:
Let us obey God in all things.
This will many times entail us to obey the human government, but not always
