SCRIPT:
Hallo, this is Hans the Dutch guy with Much Dutch, and this time we will see how to pronounce in a regular Dutch accent Christmas, or as we say Kerst, or Kerstmis.

Kerst or Kerstmis covers almost three days in The Netherlands: Kerstavond (Christmas Eve), Eerste Kerstdag and Tweede Kerstdag.

Let’s first start with Kerst, the shortest way to say Christmas: Kerst.

Kerst.

There is no emphasis, so, simply: Kerst. Kerst.

The slightly longer version is Kerstmis.

Kerstmis.

The emphasis here is on the first syllable: KERSTmis.

KERST-MIS

Kerstmis.

Then, the night before Christmas, Christmas Eve, which we call:

Kerstavond.

Put a light emphasis on the A of Avond: kerstAvond.

KERST-A-VOND

Kerstavond.

Then we have Christmas Day, which for The Netherlands is:

Eerste Kerstdag

Eerste Kerstdag

EER-STE KERST-DAG

Eerste Kerstdag

Followed the next day by:

Tweede Kerstdag.

Tweede Kerstdag

TWEE-DE KERST-DAG

Tweede Kerstdag.

And those are the days of Christmas in The Netherlands.
