Marion County sheriffs charge man with DUI, resisting a deputy after letting him off with a warning

Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies said they arrested a man who they had already stopped a couple of days before for the same offense and let go.

Jadell Ferguson, 24, of Silver Springs, was arrested early Friday morning after deputies said they saw his car weaving in and out of the lane on Baseline Road going between 60 to 66 mph in a 45 mph zone.

Deputies said the same officer, who had stopped Ferguson on the same road two nights prior, stopped him again Friday morning for the same offense.

On Wednesday, MCSO deputy Cpl. Robert Young had stopped Ferguson’s vehicle, also on Baseline Road, after they recorded him going 71 mph in a 45 mph zone.

Deputies said he was let off with a warning.

Friday, around 2 a.m., the same officer stopped Ferguson again, for the same offense on the same road.

Deputies said Ferguson had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol.

Ferguson was asked to perform field sobriety exercises.

He allegedly chanted “lawyer” repeatedly as he refused to exit his vehicle.

In a video posted to MCSO’s Facebook page, Ferguson is seen grabbing the deputy’s arm then rolling up his window to avoid being removed from his car.

Deputies say Cpl. Young had no choice but to break the window and escort Ferguson out.

Ferguson was taken to the Marion County Jail shortly after.

Deputies said during their search of his vehicle, they found a loaded handgun next to an open can of a half-empty beer.

He is being held on a $7,000 bond.

He faces charges for driving under the influence, and for resisting an officer with and without violence.
