Syria's government has fallen

Syria's government has fallen. Islamist armed opposition forces stormed Bashar al-Assad's palace in Damascus.

Syrian state TV has announced the fall of President Bashar al-Assad's regime.

🇸🇾Some of the security forces who served Assad have already effectively gone over to the side of the militants who seized power and expressed their readiness to serve the new regime. Which is actually no longer surprising, given the lack of resistance to the militants' offensive that has begun. I would assume that there could have been agreements to surrender with some of the security forces from the start.

Regarding the rumors about Assad's death. There is no confirmation of this at the moment. Just as there is no reliable confirmation of where Bashar Assad and his family may be at the moment (in Syria or abroad).

7 years later to the day, Assad’s government is driven out of Damascus, Syria.

Assad is believed to have attempted an escape abroad, but early satellite images suggest his aircraft may have been shot down before it left Syrian airspace.
