🚴 A gravel bike return ride on a warm autumn afternoon, exploring the scenic routes between the Wairarapa towns of Featherston and Greytown.

The journey begins along Underhill Road, where construction of a dedicated gravel shared path was still underway. A highlight of the ride was the stunning 150m-long suspension bridge spanning the Tauherenikau River, looking spectacular in the low-angled autumn sunlight during both crossings 🌉 (Tauherenikau Trail - https://tinyurl.com/57a74kdh)

The route continues along straight, and sometimes washboard-textured juddering gravel roads, leading to Woodside Road, with a detour to visit the quaint Woodside train station 🚂. From there, the trail connects to the well-maintained Greytown-Woodside Rail Trail 🚴‍♂️ (Rail Trail - https://tinyurl.com/3v69x7z6), providing a smooth and picturesque ride into Greytown Village 🏡.

After a quick rest and refreshments in Greytown, the return journey began, heading directly into the golden glow of the setting sun 🌅. The dramatic shadows and sparkling light through tree-lined paths added a touch of magic to the ride ✨.

As the sun dipped below the Remutaka Range, temperatures dropped, and the magic hour illuminated the tall golden grasses lining the roads and fields of Underhill Road 🌾. A breathtaking end to an unforgettable ride.
