Worry over Smart TVs tracking what viewers watch
Baltimore County Police have released the identities of two suspects in a police involved shooting on July 3. Officials say 32-year-old Robyn Slack of the 4200 block of Kenwood is charged with second degree assault and two counts of theft while Micah Tucker, 38, of the 2700 block of Chesterfield Avenue was charged with two counts of theft. Slack was denied bail and Tucker was released on his own recognizance. On Tuesday, Baltimore County Police responded to the Walgreens located in the 9600 block of Harford Road for a theft. The caller reported a male taking items from the store then fleeing in a Chevy Tahoe. An officer responding to the scene spotted the vehicle in question and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The female driver now identified as Slack refused to stop, at which time police continued their pursuit. The chase eventually ended up on the westbound lane of Philadelphia Road near 65th Streeet. There, the suspects vehicle and a police car collided. Shortly thereafter, a second crash occurred on Pulaski Highway. At that point an officer approached the suspects SUV and ordered the suspects out of the car. The driver ignored the officers commands resulting in the officer firing his service weapon several times at the SUV. Following the shooting, the driver continued traveling west on Pulaski Highway, eventually stopping near North Point Road. Both suspects were then taken into custody. Slack was unharmed while Tucker sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the arm. The officer involved has been identified as 17 1/2 year veteran, Officer First Class McCain of precinct 8. He was involved in two previous departmental shootings. One in August of 2017 which resulted in a fatality and a non fatal in 2006. His powers have been suspended with pay pending the outcome of an investigation. The Baltimore County States Attorneys Office is reviewing body worn camera footage which hes says will not yet be released to the public. New worries are emerging that SmartTVs might be tracking what we are watching, letting advertisers and programmers reach out about specific content or products that align with our interests.
