Canada: Federal government expands list of prohibited firearms – December 6, 2024

Federal ministers hold a news conference on Parliament Hill to announce that the government is expanding its list of prohibited assault-style firearms, adding 324 additional makes and models.
The event comes one day before the 35th anniversary of the massacre at École Polytechnique in Montreal.
Speaking with reporters are Dominic LeBlanc (public safety), Jean-Yves Duclos (public services and procurement), and Bill Blair (defence), as well as Rachel Bendayan (parliamentary secretary to the deputy prime minister and the MP for Outremont, Que.). Also providing remarks are Suzanne Zaccour (director of legal affairs, National Association of Women and the Law) and Nathalie Provost (survivor of the École Polytechnique massacre).
