On December 4, 2024, an armed robbery attempt at Sam's Meat Market in New Orleans East ended with a store clerk fatally shooting one suspect and injuring another. Two masked men, one a 16-year-old carrying a weapon with an extended magazine, entered the store demanding cash. The clerk, after complying initially, seized an opportunity to retrieve a firearm and fired multiple shots, killing the teen and injuring 18-year-old Teony Juarez, who was later arrested.
