China's Xi and Russia's Putin Lead Africa's Massive Arms Race | Firstpost Africa

For years, the continent of Africa has witnessed conflicts, coups, civil wars and the collapse of governments. While economies and businesses suffer during crises, the arms trade has been booming. The influx of arms in Africa has also shaped its security landscape. In 2023, Africa spent around $51.6 billion in military expenditure, a 22% increase from 2022. The biggest importers of arms in Africa include Nigeria, Angola, Senegal, Mali and Uganda. While Russia and the United States remain top arms suppliers to Africa, China has picked up a massive pace.
