Trump's Tariff Threat Sparks Mexico-Canada Feud over Fentanyl and Border Crises | Firstpost America

The feud between Canada and Mexico has grown since US President-elect Donald Trump vowed to impose hefty tariffs on both countries. Last week, the President-elect threatened to impose 25% tariffs on all Mexican and Canadian products until both nations stop drug smuggling and illegal migration into the US. Since then, Canada and Mexico have worked to gain assurances from Donald Trump to roll back his tariff threat. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum recently blamed Ottawa for America’s fentanyl crisis, saying Canada has a very serious problem of drug consumption. Meanwhile, Canadian foreign affairs minister Melanie Joly said she doesn’t plan to escalate the war of words with Sheinbaum. Mexico escalated its blame game after Canadian PM Justin Trudeau rushed to Florida to meet Trump following his tax threat.
