Qatar Said to Resume Mediator Rule As Trump Pushes for Gaza Ceasefire | Vantage With Palki Sharma

Qatar is reportedly back in its role as a mediator for the Israel-Gaza war. This move comes as US President-elect Donald Trump is pushing for a ceasefire ahead of his swearing-in ceremony. Trump's envoy to Middle East Steve Witkoff travelled to Qatar and Israel to kickstart efforts to reach a Gaza ceasefire and hostage release deal. Witkoff separately met Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani to push for the peace deal. Qatar had been mediating for months between Israel and Hamas. Though, the talks did not lead to a lasting ceasefire or release of Israeli hostages in Gaza. As per the recent reports, Hamas negotiators are likely to return to Qatar's capital Doha to facilitate fresh round of talks.
