Fireworks Cause Major Traffic Jam in New York City

Independence Day 2018. This was the day that a group from an Arts Academy in Vancouver British Columbia made the trip to New York City to visit Broadway. The academy teaches many types of music, as well as acting, singing, basically all the art forms to students from the ages of 3 to 73. Anyone with the desire to learn, is welcome. On this night, they were transiting across the Kosciuszko Bridge which passes from Greenpoint in Brooklyn to Maspeth in Queens, just as the evenings fireworks had started. The whole carload was amazed at how the fireworks caused this major traffic jam, on a major bridge. As you will hear, their comments definitely show the surprise being that this does not tend to happen in their home town. The Kosciuszko Bridge is a bridge over Newtown Creek in New York City, connecting Greenpoint in Brooklyn to Maspeth in Queens. The current bridge on the site, a cable-stayed bridge, opened in April 2017 and carries three lanes in each direction. It is one of two planned cable-stayed bridges, with a parallel bridge opening in 2020. An older bridge, a truss bridge of the same name that was located to the north of the first cable-stayed bridge, was originally opened in 1939. It was closed in April 2017 and demolished from July to October 2017.
Once they passed the major traffic which apparently took them over 30 minutes, they were able to reach their hotel and settle in for the night, eager for their next few days in The Big Apple.
