Syrian Rebels Move To Hama City After Capturing Aleppo; Pressure Intensifies on President Assad

Syrian rebels have reportedly advanced closer to the key city of Hama, following their surprise capture of Aleppo last week, intensifying pressure for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Insurgents claimed to have taken control of several villages just a few kilometres north of Hama. In response, Syrian and Russian forces have continued to carry out airstrikes in the region. The conflict has also caused significant displacement, with many civilians fleeing villages in northern and western Hama. Iran, a key ally of Syria, has indicated it would consider deploying additional troops at Syria's request to assist in combating the insurgents. Russian President Vladimir Putin also spoke with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, emphasising the need to end the rebel offensive in Syria.
