When I started this group I began writing about and sharing all the things I was experiencing and what was going on in the centre of Kuranda that NOBODY else was talking about, with the sole intention of raising our communities awareness of the serious issues our community was and still is facing, the issues that Mareeba Shire Council, the Queensland State Government and the local indigenous corporations are all still choosing to ignore - the issues that are worsening as witnessed yesterday in Centenary Park by many locals and visitors.
It wasn't a part of the narrative back then.
It is now.
In just under two years this group has manged to gather together 587 members from all walks of life.
The group and the ripple effect it has created is making a difference and each and every one of you are contributing whether you realise it or not. Thank you 🙏
This group is digging into everything that comes out of those hallowed halls in Mareeba and will continue to do so for the benefit of Kuranda.
They are so concerned they've been forced into dismissing us as 'fake news and alternative facts' amongst other things and call me a 'keyboard warrior' while they’ve had to create a new ‘Corporate Media Manager’ position, publicly state who their ‘Official Spokespeople’ are and have been lying through their teeth to us all at the same time.
This group is beginning to hold Mareeba Shire Council to account for its treatment of our village and our community and they don't like it..
We are concerned about the bigger issues here and nobody is held in the group by force.
We also know that the audience of this group - members and non members is quite large for a community our size.
This is what concerns Mr Franks and Mareeba Shire Council.
If I was them, I'd be a little concerned too.
The truth ALWAYS comes out Mr Franks.
There are solutions that will begin to address the issues our community is facing, they'll help ALL of our communities however, it is going to take a joint effort from multiple fronts to do it.
Over the coming days I'll be putting forward, in one article, what my collective solutions are and be looking forward to seeing what YOUR thoughts are about them.
I'll also be looking forward to seeing what everyone else's ideas are.
If you have anything to say about anything that gets put up in this group you won't be ostracized for saying it - we appreciate your voice and we encourage it, share your own articles and posts but please keep it on topic and share the trivial stuff elsewhere.
At the same time I don't suffer fools lightly either, as most of you are probably already well aware of.
Unlike the Council, we don't need a 'Corporate Media Manager'.
Thanks
Mark.
