Jan. 20, 1965 - Lyndon Baines Johnson was inaugurated for a full term as President today and called upon his countrymen to end old hatreds and seek justice and higher living standards for all.
The President, 56, who succeeded to office Nov. 22, 1963, upon the assassination of John F. Kennedy and was elected in his own right last November, was sworn in by Chief Justice Earl Warren at 12:03 p.m.
Six minutes earlier, Hubert Humphrey had been sworn in as the 38th Vice President of the United States. The former Minnesota Senator thus reached the pinnacle of a 19-year political career that has taken him to the nation’s second highest office.
