On February 7, 1812 in Portsmouth, England, Charles John Huffam Dickens was born into the world. His life began in hardship that soon found him working as a child laborer instead of attending school after his father was sent debtors' prison.
Those hard early years molded Dickens into the great literary genius he became, but also purchased within his heart a great sense of charity for his fellow man especially children. Devoted to his own faith in Christianity, he embarked on the goal of making Christmas a holiday of giving with the novella, A Christmas Carol.
