Senegal Asks France To Come Clean, Marks 80 Years of Massacre of African Soldiers | Firstpost Africa

France is under mounting pressure as it continues to lose influence over its former colonies in Africa. In the latest, tensions are peaking between France and Senegal. Dakar has asked Paris to come clean and state facts on the 1944 massacre of African soldiers. On Sunday, Senegal marked the 80th anniversary of the brutal killings of African soldiers who fought France during World War II and were gunned down by French troops for demanding fair treatment and pay. Senegal, for years, has demanded that France take responsibility and officially apologise for the massacre. This comes as France faces a rejection in West and Central Africa. Junta-ruled states of Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali have expelled French troops. Chad too ended a defence cooperation agreement with Paris. Now, Senegal's President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has said France should close its military cases in the country.
