Russia Carries Out Airstrikes on Syrian Rebels as Assad Orders Counteroffensive | Firstpost America

Syrian rebels have captured Idlib and Aleppo and are now moving towards Hama and Damascus in a serious threat to President Bashar Al-Assad's government. The rebel group, known as Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham is affiliated with terror group Al Qaeda and is being backed by Turkey. On the other side, Assad's government has the support of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iran. Notably, Putin deployed his forces to Syria back in 2011 when anti-government forces almost toppled Bashar Al-Assad out of power during the anti-government protests. Meanwhile, the United States, the United Kingdom, and France say they are watching the situation closely while accusing Russia of carrying out airstrikes in civilian areas.
