Yesterday morning I was experiencing frustration and every-minute impatience. It was one of those days where every little thing was met with something impeding me, I was dropping things, and one thing led to another. I began to outwardly vocalize words of constant irritation. I would stop and pray asking for forgiveness for outbursts and negative words, only seconds later to be doing it again.
At one point I let out another verbal grievance, and immediately, a partial scripture entered into my mind.
"Which things the angels long to look into...." Philippians 1:12.
I stood there knowing it was the Lord who brought that to me. I was met with deepening understanding as I meditated on that word. The understanding was very clear.
It is not only the Lord and our Father in heaven that are looking upon us. It was not only the eyes of the Holy Ghost, "the Searcher," who is searching us out, but the eyes of the angels that are all around us too.
All angels do not understand the mystery of salvation given to us. They do not know the sweetness of redemption. They have no experiential knowledge of grace and salvation. Angels in heaven have not been separated from God, nor have they personally known reconciliation or the depth of intimacy that follows. It is a foreign concept that piques their curiosity.
The Greek word for “to look into” means “to physically stoop down, peer intently, and inspect curiously.” It seems to mean a strained attention to something which has caught the eye somewhat out of usual line of sight. They are always looking at us and it seemed important to the Lord to have me acknowledge this. There also seems to be a responsibility to our character that God takes seriously regarding what they are watching us say and do.
Make sure you are walking in the ways of the Lord and let them rejoice in Jesus Christ in you.
"One unkind thought of another, one belittling thought even, unless rejected and forbidden, is enough to bring us crashing down. The outward life of victory is very closely related to the inward life of love." ~ Amy Carmichael
