Almost immediately after the ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel went into effect various factions led by Turkish offshoots of Al-Qaeda and Al-Nusra, unleashed a ground operation against the Syrian army and government, in an effort to capture Aleppo and hinder the years of progress the Syrian Arab army made since the war. This time Russia, Turkey. Ukraine, NATO. Israel and the US have stakes in the war game. But as vital as the ground war is, so too is the psychological war manipulating narratives to control emotions and sow chaos, serving the interests of the establishment, seeking to overthrow Bashar Al Assad. This in the context of the current global caldron of war, leaves much room for deceit, confusion and division. We chat with Damascus-based independent journalist Vanessa Beeley who was present during the last war and who managed to be one of the few to sift through sensationalism to get to the kernels of truth.
