I was proud to speak at the recent Idaho Mediation Association Conference on September 26-27, a pivotal event for certified and licensed mediators in the region. Having served on the board of directors for the past year, I’ve witnessed the tremendous impact this organization has on the mediation industry and those involved in conflict.

The conference featured a stellar lineup of speakers, with topics such as managing power differentials in mediation, transforming blame into empathy, and exploring the use of AI in mediation. On Friday, September 27, I presented on "The Top 7 Objections to Mediation and How to Overcome Them." Many participants initially resisted mediation due to misconceptions about the process and its benefits. I was able to address these concerns, emphasizing how mediation is often a quicker, more cost-effective solution than traditional litigation.

Mediation continues to be underused, causing individuals to endure lengthy, costly legal battles that could be resolved quickly and amicably. One of mediation's most powerful features is that it’s voluntary—participants can walk away at any time. Furthermore, it offers people the last opportunity to directly influence their own outcome, rather than having it decided by a court.

If you’re involved in a legal dispute—whether in family law, employment, or civil court—mediation is a valuable option to consider. The Idaho Mediation Association Conference was a fantastic opportunity to explore the power of mediation and learn from others in the field.
