On October 3rd, 2023, an officer on patrol noticed a suspicious car parked in a community for disabled elderly residents. He recognized the passenger from previous encounters and wasn’t happy about it. The interaction was soon going to result in a death and the officer was about to destroy his life with one crazy move. The woman tried to hide her personal information by giving the officer a fake name. Suddenly, the woman started the car, backed up, hit the officer with the door, and began fleeing. At this point, the officer fired shots at her, but that part has been censored. More officers arrived on the scene to assist. Even after the officers tried their best, they couldn't save her life. The man was arrested because he had multiple felony warrants for drugs and burglary. In the middle of the investigation, one of the residents called the officers because a man had broken into their house. The officer was brought in for an interview. The officer was placed on administrative duty and then taken into custody a few days later when prosecutors decided to charge him with second-degree murder, as there was no act of self-defence and the use of deadly force was unnecessary. The woman’s family filed a federal wrongful death lawsuit against the city and police, claiming her civil rights were violated.
